The following letter from Samuel to his son James is quoted by Henry Tucker in his history of the family: Shrowsbeury the 8 day ye 8 mo. 1798....Samuel Lives with us yet....Poor allen Lived in great Sparits all winter thinking the would Call for him this Spring went to Skool all winter and Larnt mazingly fast and got it, his master Says he thinks Parfit as far as the Rule of three and fellowship I exspeckt he will go to Skool this winter again. I think he will make a Prittey Capable hand at that Bisness, if the thinks the Cant put him in that Bisness next Spring I must Look our for a trade for him.⁸
